There's no place like Gramercy Park for nice-guy actor Richard Gere.

THERE'S no place like Gramercy Park for nice-guy actor Richard Gere.

The silver-haired Best Marigold Hotel star bought the two bedroom co-op that once belonged to Wizard of Oz witch, Margaret Hamilton.

Listed by RES New York broker Lynne Lerner at $1.595 million in January last year, the 1,113 s/f apartment at 34 Gramercy Park East has a "flexible" layout that includes a dining room and eat-in kitchen. The New York Post first reported the sale.

The co-op overlooks Gramercy Park and comes with a coveted key to one of the city's most exclusive green spaces.

Gere previously lived in the West Village with wife, model and actress Carey Lowell, and their 15-year-old son, Homer James Jigme, named after Gere's and Lowell's fathers, with the Tibetan name, Jigme.

The couple separated in 2013 after 11 years of marriage.

The newly-single Gere will have plenty of celebrity pals to keep him company though. Gramercy Park is home to a plethora of big names, including Uma Thurman, Jimmy Fallon, Jim Parsons and Gere's Pretty Woman co-star, Julia Roberts.

Lerner--a veteran of the Gramercy real estate scene--declined to comment on the sale.

But Arelene Harrison, who's known locally as the mayor of Gramercy Park, was thrilled by the new neighbor news.

"We have a very rich history of great actors living on Gramercy Park, including Edwin Booth, James Cagney, Gregory Peck and John Barrymore," said Harrison, who is the president of the Gramercy Park Block Association.

"From everything I have heard, Mr Gere is a really wonderful person and we look forward to having him on the block."

Gere is a committed Buddhist and advocate for human rights in Tibet. He co-founded the Tibet House to support Tibetan independence and has been permanently banned from entering the People's Republic of China for his activism.
