Theatre plans its big move.

KENILWORTH'S Talisman Theatre has moved a big step nearer a new home in the town after voting to bring down the curtain on its current base.

The theatre's 250-plus members have voted overwhelming in favour of moving to a new home.

An estimated pounds 250,000 would need to be spent to keep the 40-year-old building at Barrow Road going over the next few years.

Talks are under way with the council and other civic parties at the possibility of a purpose-built theatre in Smalley Place.

Theatre chairman Ian Roberts says the key task now is to involve all members in the move.

"A lot of us will be sad to leave Barrow Road, but hopefully the new theatre will give us a chance to develop what we do and continue to produce shows people want to be involved with and audiences want to see," he says.

No timescale has been set for the move as talks continue over the theatre's exact requirements.
