The week: Movies: DVD; THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON (15).

Byline: BY ROZ LAWS

YOU may have missed this short-run film at the cinema, so this is a good chance to catch it.

Based on the true story of an abortive attempt to kill the 37th American President, the film has Sean Penn as Samuel Bicke, a man going through a more severe mid-life crisis than most.

Bicke starts to see Nixon as the embodiment of all that is wrong with the world and devises a plan to make his insignificant presence felt.

The last 15 minutes of this slow-burning film are riveting and shocking, making it well worth sitting through the other uneven 75.

Penn is especially compelling in his portrayal of an agonised man unravelling before our eyes.
