The weather's grim here too.

HEAVY snow has blanketed Liverton Mines since a week on Wednesday.

Cars on the forecourt of the local garage, far right, resemble huge snowballs rather than vehicles.

Terry Main, 65, who lives with wife Barbara, said: "I've lived here all my life and I haven't seen anything like it."

Villagers say they have seen no gritters or snow ploughs - making many roads treacherous, like the one pictured above.

Terry, a retired hospital porter, said: "It's absolutely unbelievable. The snow is between two and three feet in places and it keeps going on and on. I've only been out twice in the last eight days. You're dicing with death if you take the car out so I had to walk to Loftus for supplies."

Terry can't even get to see his three grandchildren four miles away in Brotton.
