The supermarket sweep; ALDI STEP UP TO TAKE ON THE SUPERMARKET GIANTS IN WALES.

ALDI was founded by two German brothers, Karl and Theo Albrecht.

They named their new business Albrecht Discount - or Aldi for short.

The company opened its first store in the UK in Birmingham in 1990 and now has more than 457 stores in England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland. It is planning to ramp that up to 1,500 by opening on average one store every week over the next 20 years.

Aldi currently holds three per cent of the UK grocery market, some way behind market leaders Tesco and Asda.
