The spotlight's on art in Welsh sale.

CARDIFF artist Harry Holland used nine nude models to conceive an intriguing work which is one of the many highlights in the Welsh Sale, an auction of paintings to be conducted by North Wales' premier fine art auctioneers Rogers Jones Co.

Titled "Nonary", the monumental 4ft-wide oil on panel is expected to sell for pounds 15,000 to pounds 18,000 in the sale on Saturday April 28.

Two further oils on panel depicting nudes by Holland are titled "Cavern", and "Balm", and are estimated at pounds 6,000 to pounds 8,000 and pounds 8,000 to pounds 10,000 respectively.

One of Britain's leading figurative painters, he has lived in Cardiff since 1973.

Another living artist, Tom J Nash is represented by a selection of almost 30 paintings from his studio.

Nash studied at Swansea School of Art followed by lectureships at Llanelli and Dyfed College of Art.

A Royal Cambrian Academician, he worked in North Wales slate quarries and was Artist in Residence at Oxford and Bradford Universities. Estimates range from pounds 60-350.

No Welsh sale at Rogers Jones would be complete without works by Sir Kyffin Williams (1918-2006).

Among the most valuable this time an oil on canvas depicting Snowdonia peaks partially covered in snow.

Titled on the reverse 'Nant Peris' and signed with initials, it is estimated at pounds 25,000-28,000, while an atmospheric and mellow Anglesey coastal view, titled 'Mountains from Beaumaris' is estimated at pounds 18,000-25,000.

The work is signed and dates from the 1980s.
