Gwen Stefani's couture ponytail couture ponytail

STYLIST to the stars, Evin Austin says: "When you want to impress with an elegant yet modern style, the easiest way to achieve this is with a simple ponytail with volume on top.

"This look has been made popular by Gwen Stefani, with Carmen Electra and others following suit."

1 Shampoo your hair with a volumi sing shampoo. This helps the backcombing and volume to stay in place if the Blow-dry your hair with a hair is allowed a few hours of natural oil to build up.

2 Blow-dry your hair with a ceramic brush to get rid of unwanted fly-aways. If your hair is already straight, smooth it over with ceramic-plated straightening irons.

3 Section the hair in two - the top section you wish to give height to and a section beneath. Pull the top section forward. Divide this and backcomb individual sections to provide as much height as possible. Leave the very front area smooth, to cover over the backcombed area.

4 Once completed, gently comb the hair back keeping the desired amount of volume. Pull the other section back to just below the centre of the head and, including the top section, secure with elastic into a ponytail. 5 Pull out a small section of hair from the ponytail and wrap around the elastic. Simply pin this underneath the ponytail with a bobby pin and finish the look with a strong- hold hairspray.

"It's also really easy to achieve with mid to longer length of hair."

3 Use a fixing spray all over the hair, then twist the ponytail, listing it slightly and securing into a bun using bobby pins.

4 Finish with a fixing spray.

Gisele Bundchen'sexy loose curls

INTERNATIONAL hair stylist Steve Terry says: "Glossy over-styled locks are out, but sexy natural-looking curls are in. They're popular with stars like Gisele Bundchen and Fergie."

"This look is easily achieved and can be a transition from day to night."

HOW TO GET IT: 1 Wash your hair and use conditioner only on mid-length to ends. Too much makes the hair heavy and much harder to style.

2 Apply a root-lifting product before blow-drying with a good brush. For extra lift, try flicking your head upside dow n.

3 Section hair and use a curling iron. Apply spray, comb through and roll irons, starting at ear level to create a less dramatic curl. To keep volume, curl at a 90-degree angle from the head.

4 Comb hair with a wide-tooth comb for a softer wave.

5 Finish by spraying entire head with flexible-hold spray.
