The restaurants that opened in Cardiff in 2017; From Marco Pierre White's new steakhouse to a Spanish asador-style restaurant, the Welsh capital has been inundated with new places to eat during the past 12 months. Nathan Bevan reminds us where we should book a table...

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill What is it? The world-renowned Michelin-starred chef promises great food in luxurious and relaxed surroundings, with "something to suit every taste and budget".
"Affordable glamour," he calls it, complete with 360-degree views over the city.
Where is it? Based on the roof of the new PS9m boutique Hotel Indigo at Dominions House, a seven-storey office block on Queen Street. What's on the menu? A selection of English and French classics, including Marco Pierre White's favourites such as roast pork belly, chicken Kiev and roast rump of lamb alongside a range of 28-day aged native breed steaks.
Asador 44 What is it? The fourth venture from award-winning tapas restaurant Bar 44 , it specialises in northern Spanish cooking - in particular, the asador-style. It's already won a host of accolades and was name-checked in the Good Food Guide.
Where is it? Quay Street, Cardiff. What's on the menu? Meat, fish and vegetables are chargrilled over charcoal and wood - the asador-style of cooking - making this place an authentic taste of Spain. It also has a walk-in wine store and a cheese cave.
Seafood Shack What is it? 7,000 sq ft of seafood dining - spread over two floors - with the first floor housing a luxurious champagne and oyster bar, with rooftop terrace.
Where is it? High Street, Cardiff. What's on the menu? Maritime fare such as lobster, crab, oysters etc, along with burgers and steak, a wide variety of cocktails, more than 100 wines, 50 craft beers and Champagnes, gins and whiskies.
Meat 156 What is it? Burgers, steaks and shakes.
Where is it? 156 City Road, Cardiff.
What's on the menu? Try The Texan - a burger with cheddar cheese, hickory BBQ sauce & crispy fried onion strings.
The Philharmonic What is it? One of the capital's most iconic nightspots, this Grade II-listed Victorian boozer got a new lease of life, after years lying idle, from the owners of Cardiff venues Brewhouse and Retro, and is now a bar and restaurant.
Where is it? 76-77 St Mary Street, Cardiff.
What's on the menu? As well as a huge booze selection - 50 different gins, anyone? - a varied menu caters for early risers for breakfast, light-lunchers, as well as the gourmet diners. Order the 7oz fillet steak, or the slow cooked pork belly and the aptly-named Philharmonic Burger, made from wagyu beef. The Dough Thrower What is it? Wood-fired pizzas, from the people who brought you Surf Shack Bay on Cowbridge Road East. Where is it? 591 Cowbridge Road East, CF5 1BE.
What's on the menu? From the Nduja sausage pizza and the Brooklyn Pie to sides like fire-baked head of cauliflower with dips, this is no-fuss food with max taste.
Brass Beetle What is it? A further addition to Cardiff's already thriving pizza scene, offering quality wood-fired pizzas.
Where is it? 11 Whitchurch Road. What's on the menu? Far from your standard pizzas - customers can expect toppings which include ingredients such as honey roasted ham hock, enoki, oyster mushrooms and caramelised leeks, all served alongside innovative side dishes. There's even a vegan aioli.
Munchies What is it? A diner dedicated to cheese - what's not to like? Where is it? 22 Crwys Rd. What's on the menu? From the simplest cheese toastie to the Caerphilly cheese steak sub roll and the three cheese mix mac 'n' cheese - there's also a Camembert-filled bread-bowl served with a garlic and herb dip.
Chai St What is it? The third branch of popular Indian street food restaurant.
Where is it? Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay.
What's on the menu? A food-onthe-go experience with meals made up of various dishes, served on a platter or thali. Try the Bombay potato, aubergine and cauliflower coconut milk curry - followed by a mango lassi and gulab jamun dessert.
Atma What is it? Award-winning vegetarian cafe.
Where is it? Unit 20, Capitol Centre, Queen Street.
What's on the menu? A variety of vegan-friendly curries, burgers wraps and sweets - all its dairy products come from cows that will never be slaughtered, making it the first cafe of its kind in Europe.
Thackeray What is it? A new restaurant bar and grill on the former site of The Sir Henry Morgan pub.
Where is it? Newport Road, Rumney. What's on the menu? Starters including scallops, ham hock and asparagus and red onion tart. Mains are made up of braised Welsh lamb, sea bass herb roasted chicken and cauliflower, chickpea and sweet potato curry. There is also a Sunday lunch menu and a steak menu.
Llaeth & Siwgr What is it? Milk & Sugar's new eaterie with a Welsh twist. Where is it? Old Library, The Hayes. What's on the menu? Breakfast and brunch served all day, along made to order sandwiches, toasted sandwiches and salads.
Sio What is it? Chapter Arts Centre's new 40-seater diner down the Bay.
Where is it? The south end of Lloyd George Avenue, Cardiff Bay.
What's on the menu? Go a la carte, or pick from the quick lunch menu, perfect for those workers on a tight schedule.
Milkwood What is it? The latest eatery from the founders of Porro and the Potted Pig.
Where is it? 83 Pontcanna Street (the former site of Cibo Italian restaurant).
What's on the menu? Delicious bistro fare from a small, but well focused menu, with only four or five starters and main courses.
Elevens What is it? Gareth Bale's premium sports bar and grill - back of the net!
Where is it? 15 Castle Street. What's on the menu? Packed with burgers - made with Welsh beef - steaks and snacks. Also, try the Elevens pizza - pepperoni, smoked bacon, grilled chicken and mushrooms.
