The pape crusader.
Chuck Dixon, who writes Batman cartoon strips for DC Comics, told fans on the internet there has been an ongoing argument about the superhero's religion.
But he added: "I have conceded he must be a Catholic. No Protestant ever suffered guilt the way he does."
Yesterday members of the Catholic Church in Scotland said they were happy to welcome Batman to the fold.
Church spokesman Monsignor Tom Connelly said: "I'm delighted Batman has been flying in the path of the angels and is still able to kick with the right foot, meaning the left.
"He is well-known for overcoming evil with good and that is what being a Catholic is all about.
"I just hope the angels continue to guide him in everything he does.
"Batman as a Catholic is not something we have problem with in any way."
