Parisi (law, George Mason University) and Rowley (The Locke Institute and economics, George Mason University) assemble a collection of 16 essays on the origins and history of law and economics. The editors discuss the history of the two fields since 1739 and methodological debates. Included is a transcript of a discussion at a conference in 1981 on the intellectual history of the two fields at the University of Chicago. This is followed by 16 essays by the "founding fathers," three of whom are Nobel Laureates. They discuss behavior and economics, cost and choice, the views of economist Ronald Coase, transaction costs in analysis, justice, property rights, personal experiences in the field, common law, morality, and organization.
