This reprint of Wilcox's 1958 edition of her history of costume is fun to read, more for her comments on the clothing of the early Twentieth century than the information on earlier periods. She begins with chapters on clothing and hair in the Ancient Middle East and Egypt and continues through the eras in Western Europe. Unlike many such histories, this differentiates among the styles by country within the time periods. She also discusses when certain innovations began to be used, the bobby pin, for example. With over two hundred line drawings, this is still a useful resource of historians of costume.
