The male brain.

The male brain.

Brizendine, Louann.

Broadway Books

271 pages

In this highly anticipated follow up to Briznedine's The Female Brain, the author shifts her focus to the male mind. Written to be accessible and easy to read, the book is intended for both men and the women who are confused by them. The text addresses the brain structures and hormonal biology that mold how men act at each stage of life. It covers male hormones and anatomizes sections of the brain, and describes how each affects the man. The author states that male and female brains are different from the moment of conception, that the chromosomal difference is later exaggerated by hormones, and that our brain's architecture continues to change throughout life. Drawing on her twenty-five years of clinical experience as a neuropsychiatrist, Brizendine devotes a chapter to each phase of a man's life, including the "daddy brain" and the male brain and sexual orientation. Along with being an author, Brizendine is an endowed professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of California and founder of The Women's Mood and Hormone Clinic.
