The great outdoors is about to get very loud.

The hill of the Cuthbert will be alive with the sound of much harder music than it's used to when the Pedal to the Metal Tour stops there Tuesday.

The heavy metal concert is a great value for those who enjoy the genre, with six bands performing starting at 5 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m.

Hellzapoppin opens, followed by Bury Your Dead, Suicide Silence, Static-X and Black Label Society. Mudvayne is the headliner.

Originally, Black Label Society and Mudvayne were going to co-headline the tour. But they decided to turn it into a bigger show by adding other bands.

"I'm very picky about who we tour with," Static-X frontman Wayne Static says in a news release. "I think Static-X slaughter most bands live, and I pride myself in our show.

"I refuse to open for a band that I don't think is worthy, so that says a lot about Mudvayne, Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society's frontman) and this entire package."

Wylde was a New Jersey gas station worker when Ozzy Osbourne hired him as a guitarist in the late 1980s. He started Pride & Glory and released a solo project before forming Black Label Society about 10 years ago while on a break from Osbourne's band.

Wylde has since returned to the famed English rocker's post Black Sabbath band. According to the Hollywood Rock Walk Web site, Guitar Player Magazine named Wylde one of the world's greatest guitarists in 2003.

The news release says of Mudvayne that it is one of the only acts in heavy metal to hold the distinction of having each of its five studio albums reach recording industry gold. The band has sold more than 5 million units worldwide and played to an estimated 1 million fans live, the release says.

Static-X may be an "opener" for this show, but the group has its own impressive resume that includes selling more than 3 million of its recordings worldwide, the release says.

After the show, be sure to check in at The Register-Guard's Web site for reviews of the live show. Newspaper readers have been asked to check the concert out and report what they see.
