The future's brighter...

A MILESTONE has been reached by Redcar and Cleveland Council's street lighting programme - and Saltburn resident Elisabeth Trencham, in particular, is delighted!

The new column that now brightens up the street outside her home in Victoria Road is the 15,000th to be installed in the ongoing Public Private Partnership with David Webster Ltd, that began in September 2007. Mrs Trencham was delighted to take part in the celebration to mark the occasion, which also looks forward to the completion of the scheme ahead of schedule this summer.

Council Cabinet member for highways, transportation and planning Mary Lanigan, who presented Mrs Trencham with a bouquet, said: "We are delighted with the progress being made - and the feedback from the public.

"Originally, we expected the replacement programme to take five years, but we drew up a three-year schedule and we're ahead of that, too."

Mrs Trencham said: "I think everyone in the road appreciates that the new lights are definitely an improvement and in keeping with the streetscene."

DWL deputy MD John Barker said: "We're delighted that substantial progress has been made with ongoing installation works."
