UAE flag to be raised on 75-metre poles in Kalba, Al Dhaid and Dibba Al Hisn

In keeping with the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and as part of its preparations to mark the UAE's 42nd National Day, the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) will raise the UAE flag on 75-metre high poles in Kalba, Al Dhaid and Dibba Al Hisn in the emirate of Sharjah, to share its pride of the flag and unity behind the leadership with the people of the emirates.

The UAE flag will be raised at 4.30pm in a special ceremony to be held on December 2 in the presence of directors and staff of a number of government departments in Sharjah, as well as senior officials of government bodies in the three cities.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), said: "The inauguration of the new flagpoles in the Eastern Region in Sharjah, which will coincide with the 42nd anniversary of the UAE National Day, comes in complementation of the flagpole developed in Sharjah by Shurooq last year as part of its celebration of the UAE's 41st National Day. The UAE flag on the Flag Island is raised on a 123-metre high pole, an initiative through which we aim to consolidate national loyalty to our beloved country in the minds and hearts of the people of the UAE, who collaboratively work to safeguard their country and raise its status."

The flagpoles will be inaugurated in a special ceremony to be held at the same time in the three cities and celebrations will begin with the UAE national anthem, followed by the oath of loyalty, and then the flag-raising ceremony, accompanied by a musical performance by the military musical band of Sharjah Police.

The celebrations will also feature a saluting of the flag and conclude with live musical shows performed by the military band along with all participants in the event.

The Flag Island, developed by Shurooq in collaboration with the Sharjah Department of Public Works and a number of government bodies and departments, was inaugurated by Shaikh Sultan on December 2, 2012. The Flag Island is home to the seventh highest flagpole in the world.
