The fall guy-rope; TIM BOND on where to camp among the glorious autumnal leaves.

Byline: TIM BOND

THE foliage has turned golden and there's a touch of mist in the mornings - autumn is here and camping in the woods means you can get up close and personal with the seasonal hues.

So dig out your warmest sleeping bag and have a look at what site expert Pitchup.com has rustled up for a leaf-kicking break.

FOREST GLADE HOLIDAY PARK, DEVON

With a name like Forest Glade, this leafy park in a dell doesn't disappoint on the jumping-into-leaf-piles factor.

There's plenty on offer for kids of all ages, including all-weather tennis courts, a heated indoor pool and an adventure playground.

Don't forget to check out the wildlife information room before setting out one of the many forest walks around the park - then you'll know just where to spot a badger or two.

Cost: pitches from pounds 12.50pn.

SAUGHY RIGG FARM, NORTHUMBERLAND

This family run farm offers guests a cosy night's sleep in one of the two timber camping pods.

The farm itself has trees and fields aplenty, grows all its own produce and keeps chickens, giving youngsters the chance to collect their own eggs for breakfast and learn all about organic farming.

Pods sleep families of four. Cost: pods from pounds 30pn.

DERNWOOD FARM WILD CAMPING, EAST SUSSEX

The site is set within 70 acres of woodland so children will love building the camp and stoking the camp fire - and the farm sells its own pedigree meat to cook on it.

The fields are car-free so it's a few minutes' wobble through woods with a wheelbarrow to locate your leafy spot. Cost: adult pounds 9pn, child pounds 6pm.

KINGSMEAD CENTRE, DEVON

Situated in the woodland of the Blackdown Hills, the site is home to an abundance of wildlife.

The delights of Taunton are close by and free maps are available on-site for all the local walking, cycling and horse riding trails.

And don't forget your fishing rod, there are two on-site lakes offering angling exclusively for campers. Cost: pitches from pounds 10pn.

CWM BANW, POWYS

Leave your tent at home and enjoy a chilled-out weekend at the tipi retreat in a beautiful valley surrounded by the mountains and woodlands of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The luxurious, rustic tipis sleep up to three people and guests can also enjoy the stunning views from the hot tub at the farm house.

Cwn Banw's hostess is a fully trained masseuse and offers guests a range of holistic treatments, as well as yoga sessions and meditation.

Cost: Tipis from pounds 83pn. www.pitchup.com
