The fairer sex.

By Maria Gregoriou

Still on today is the group photography exhibition The Second Sex at the ARTos Cultural and Research Foundation in Nicosia.

The exhibition exhibits photographs which focus on the experiences of women in Cypriot society. Each photo represents women in their full potential while simultaneously exposing the dire patriarchal pressures to which they are subjected by the society around them.

Featured works capture and explore a broad range of themes, including womanhood, empowerment, emancipation, success, sexuality, angst, objectification, crime, violence and suffering.

The exhibition is part of The Justice Project, a project which runs national campaigns to advocate for change and raise awareness about issues related to women, LGBT people, ethnic minorities and refugees in Cyprus. Through this display of photographs, and other events organised by the project, like minded people may join the fight for change and set the wheels in motion for further awareness -- raising and getting more projects rolling.
