IT'S one of the little-known aspects of the election...
e Returning Ocer for Parliamentary Elections, the Mayor of South Tyneside and the Acting Returning Ocer have received the ocial writs from the Queen commanding the holding of elections next month.
e ocial writs are issued on behalf of the Queen by the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery at Westminster and, according to custom, are delivered by Royal Mail to the Mayor of the Borough who is the Returning Ocer for Parliamentary Elections. e Mayor of South Tyneside, Coun Fay Cunningham, ocially received the writs for the general election in her constituencies of South Shields and Jarrow.
She was accompanied by the Acting Returning Ocer, Martin Swales, who is responsible for the conduct of the general election and the return of the writs con-rming the names of the elected Members of Parliament.
Martin Swales, also Chief Executive of South Tyneside Council, said: "Now that the writs have been formally received, the Elections Oce will publish a Notice of Election for each constituency to start the parliamentary election process."
