The cost of flag flying; Your say.

AT a time of austerity, when households are struggling to pay for even the most basic needs, I'd like to know how Redcar and Cleveland Council can justify raising the council tax and then proceed to waste money on 16 flagpoles at a cost of PS1,100 'Flying flag 16 times over' (15.11.12).

We're told the council tax has to go up because of government cuts, but the council wastes money on things that are non essential while cutting frontline services.

The street lights have been turned down so low that they might as well be turned off altogether.

Streets still have potholes from three years ago - Tawney Road and Monmouth Road are covered in potholes.

Redcar and Cleveland is one of the highest paying council taxes in the country and I'd like to know why, when our money is being wasted away, at the same time libraries are closing, adult education centres are struggling or closing down.

I can't see any justification for the rise in council tax when they seem to have money to burn away.
