The cost of US support to Israel.

"A nation declines to degeneracy when it can no longer control its borders or its parasites"

- Priscilla Balles

IF control of America's borders means keeping people from physically entering the country, the Statue of Liberty has lost the meaning it possessed for more than a century.

The statue is an iconic symbol of freedom and the US and a poem called The New Colossus, by Emma Lazarus, was dedicated to it in 1901.

It includes these now famous words: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

"Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me; I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

If that dedication reflects the turning of Liberty into a welcoming mother, a symbol of hope to the outcasts and downtrodden of the world, the US borders should remain open.

If closed, the dedication should be replaced with "America is now closed" and the following small print should be added: "Unless you're wealthy, can contribute to national growth or help America eliminate her enemies."

Another indication that the US has been declining to degeneracy has been its inability to control its parasites. America's leading parasite, of course, is Israel.

According to Webster, one definition of parasite is: "Something that resembles a biological parasite in dependence on something else for existence or support without making a useful or adequate return."

What is it that Israel depends on for existence or support?

The answer is money (lots of it), military equipment, total support in the United Nations and brainwashing to silence critics.

But how much money has Israel received from America?

Retired US Foreign Service officer Shirl McArthur compiled direct aid to Israel through 2008 and concluded it reached almost $114 billion.

This assistance has been borne by the American taxpayer to supply Israel with military hardware for use against the Palestinians in Gaza, to decimate Lebanon and bomb Syria and Iraq.

It would be amiss to overlook the $750bn spent on the Iraq war, fought to protect Israel against any possibility that Baghdad might develop weapons of mass destruction.

Peter Joseph, president emeritus of Israel Policy Forum and a senior fellow at the Centre for American Progress, stated in the Jerusalem Post that President Barack Obama's administration had been even more generous with taxpayers' dollars.

"Obama raised the amount of military aid to Israel, making it the single largest expense of the 2010 foreign aid budget," he wrote.

"He also authorised $205 million to enable the completion of the Iron Dome missile defence."

Greg Felton, investigative journalist and author of The Host and the Parasite - How Israel's Fifth Column Consumed America, said Israel had been "leaching off" the US since it was formed more than 60 years ago.

"The US became midwife to a war crime when it endorsed the creation of Israel in 1948 and blackmailed European nations into supporting it," he wrote.

"From this time forward, the Zionist parasite began leaching off the US."

One reviewer of the book concluded that US support to Israel was tantamount to pressing the self-destruct button.

"For those who pretend that America's Mideast policy is intended to serve its self-interest, Felton reviews the appalling cost to America of its pro-Israel policy: thousands of dead American soldiers; trillions of dollars of debt incurred over the years due to higher oil costs and ruinous wars; the enmity of the world; and the destruction of the American system of republican government."

And what has America gained by supporting Israel? Nothing, Felton argues, that can begin to justify the appalling cost.
