The cost of 'giants' Your say.

I FIND Cllr Steve Kay's letter 'Let's Be Original' (1.10.12) about plans for more local sculptures interesting indeed.

He rightfully criticises the imposition of the monstrous giants. Five were planned for the local authorities. Only one built so far, no prizes who fell for it, our beloved Boro agreed to Temenos.

Hopefully the other authorities have wised up.

The five giants were to cost PS12.3m in 2008, whether it is local taxpayers' money or not, somewhere along the line it will have come out of the taxpayers' pockets.

This town has suffered a number of foolhardy stunts, for example mima. The general feeling of the public is, not for us, a complete and utter waste of taxpayers' money.

We now have a load of scrap dumped in sight of the town hall. We are told it is aircraft engines and mima are responsible. I would have thought you needed planning permission for a scrap yard.

The waving corn on the A66, car parking on the former sites of the Odeon and the beautiful Cleveland Engineering building and Temenos - the people of this town deserve better. It seems that we are in need of people who can use joined up thinking.
