Olivier (emeritus, computer science, U. of Nice) and Delvare, a development consultant near Bordeaux, provide a big fat guide to the GNU Image Manipulation Program, one of the most successful open-source software packages. The first section is about learning GIMP, and has chapters such as photograph retouching, logos and textures, animation, and designing a website. The second section is reference to such matters as the GIMP interface, layers, masks, transformation tools, obtaining and printing images, and customizing. The final section contains appendices, including tips and hints for selected exercises, frequently asked questions, and batch processing. This is an authorized translation of GIMP Manuel de refence pour l'edition d'images en logiciel libre, published by Pearson Education, France in 2010.
