The best of times? BEST MAN'S SPEECH THURSDAY, ITV2, 9pm.

Short of getting married himself, being a best man is one of the most daunting prospects a grown man can face.

He has to keep the mother-in-law happy, keep the groom calm, and sober whilst not touching a drop himself. And, above all, he has to make that all-important speech.

This series is coming to the rescue, providing real-life best men with the help of comedians Dave Gorman, Sean Hughes, Richard Herring and Rufus Hound to give them guidance on how to write and deliver the impressive speech.

There's 27-year-old salesman Harry Fung, who fears that his gift of the gab will abandon him on the big day. He's got one month and some one-liners from Gorman, but he also has to do half of the speech at the Chinese banquet in Mandarin.

That's nothing compared to Jamie Weir, who wants to do a runner, admitting: "I even told Marc if he had another friend who was better than me he should do it."

This is an educational series for anyone in this position, and also an excuse to laugh at people being humiliated.
