The bargain phone that isn't cheap but gets the work done very well.

THE OnePlus 5T has been called 2017's Phone Bargain of the Year by, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's also been called a better version of the iPhone X.

I only know of one person who uses this and she paid a not-so-bargain price for it. 'I love it,' she said. Before the OnePlus 5T, she was using an Android from another brand and an iPhone ('Not going back to iOS again.')

She describes the OnePlus 5T as being a combination of the iPhone X and the Google Pixel 2 at half the price. She got the 124GB unit for P31,000.

The OnePlus 5T was released only months after the OnePlus 5, making it the fourth phone to be released by the company in less than two years.

Compared to the OnePlus 5, the 5T has a larger and more impressive display. It measures 6 inches as compared to the 5's 5.5 inches. It's taller, of course. Let's bring out the cons first: The phone isn't waterproof, and it doesn't support wireless charging.

The screen's resolution aspect ratio has gone from 16:9 to 18:9, the same as that of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ and the Google Pixel 2 SL. It has Face Unlock which, according to reviews, isn't as seamless as the iPhone X's but isn't bad at all.

The phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is scheduled to get Android 8.0 Oreo soon enough. (According to online reports, OnePlus is already pushing the Oreo upgrade to users-Ed.)

As for the camera, it isn't the best, according to reviews, but it's not bad either.

It's in the battery that the OnePlus 5T excels-on Airplane Mode with video playback, it lasts over 17 hours. If you're an iPhone user, you know how amazing that sounds.

With a Snapdragon 835 processor and 8GB RAM, the OnePlus 5T will not likely beat the iPhone X's speed but it's pretty fast (the same as the Samsung Galaxy S8, which is one of 2017's best phones).

Since we weren't able to get our hands on the OnePlus 5T, we relied on online reviews and that of the only person we know who uses it. Here are some we found online.

'Let's not forget that for APS449, the OnePlus 5T is an exceptionally well-rounded smartphone.

It is at least APS100 cheaper than similar handsets, and sometimes close to APS300 less,' Henry Burrell said on

According to, 'The OnePlus 5T is a superb, affordable phone for new buyers, despite only minor changes from the OnePlus 5.'

'OnePlus did it again. Its latest phone, the OnePlus 5T, pairs the right high-end hardware and software with the right price, making it one of the best value phones you can buy anywhere. It remains one of

those rare devices that can take on phones with slightly brawnier specs and higher price tags,' the review said.

'The OnePlus 5T remains one of the best phones on the market, and for the APS449 starting price I don't think there's a better option out there,' Max Parker said on
