The baby girl who saved mum's life.

AN unborn baby saved the life of a pregnant Israeli woman when she was shot by a sniper, doctors revealed yesterday.

The growing baby shifted her mum's vital organs during the pregnancy and the bullet passed through her without touching them or the child.

Tamara Fisch-Lifshitz, 33, said: "If I had not been pregnant I would not be alive now.'' She gave birth to a baby girl soon after the attack by Palestinian gunmen near her home on the West Bank.

Her father and a neighbour were killed in Monday's shooting.

Dr Alon Pikarsky of Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital, said: "If she hadn't been pregnant the injuries would have been a lot more serious.'' Mother and baby are fine.
