The Sports Shop.

The Sports Shop. Located right at the tip of Five Points, the Sports Shop has been a Sarasota landmark since 1932. Last remodeled in 1963, it still boasts a wonderful mid-century facade. Inside, though, the fashions are conservatively up-to-date and the store has a loyal following. Present owner Eleene Cohen (wife of former mayor and civic leader David Cohen) took over the store from her parents. Famous customers have included Eleanor Roosevelt and Mrs. Charles Ringling North. Eleene's biggest headache these days is one we're hearing more and more -- the awful state of downtown parking. "They're trying to revitalize downtown, but instead of making it easier for people to shop here, they're making it harder." The Sports Shop, 1395 Main St. 365-2232.
