The Society for Care of Neurological Patients (SCNP) is celebrating the successful accomplishments of the 16th edition of the LG Dead Sea Ultra Marathon (DSUM), ensuring that the event is about to witness another year of successful achievements. Since its launch, the SCNP helped many patients in Jordan throughout the support from local and international based companies including the event's title sponsor since its launch in 1993, LG Electronics. The LG DSUM, which is held under the patronage of HRH Prince Raed Bin Zeid, is scheduled to take place on April 10, 2009.

The DSUM is the main fund-raising event for the SCNP; it aims to increase knowledge about the benefits of running, gathering people from all around the globe to join in this unique event. But most importantly, it raises awareness towards the society's existence, and provides neurological patients in need with medical aid and covers the costs of necessary surgeries. So far, the SCNP has contributed to the treatment of more than 1000 cases across the Kingdom, worth of JD 1 million.

The Vice President of the SCNP, Mr. Ghazi Farouq stated that the President of the SCNP, HRH, Prince Firas Bin Raed, is always keen to follow up on the details and preparations of the 16th edition of the DSUM, to make this year's event a distinct by all standards.

He also added, "The LG DSUM is a great source of pride for us, at the SCNP, as it promotes awareness, and also helps those in need. The continued success of this annual event in Jordan puts the set goals into action, since sports unite all people, especially running, which does not need high-priced gear; everyone can participate within the Marathon's regulations. Running the marathon itself is a challenge and an achievement on a personal level, and requires motivation and determination on the part of the participants. The LG DSUM introduces visitors and participants to the distinguished touristic sites in our beloved country, Jordan. And the marathon also aims to raise awareness and offers health tips for the participants, who, in turn, will contribute to the treatment of SCNP's patients. I would like to thank our sponsors for their support, without which LG DSUM wouldn't have made it this far".

The Managing Director of LGE Levant, Mr. Kevin Cha expressed his enthusiasm at sponsoring this exceptional event for yet another year, and added, "We, at LGE, and the Middle East Complex -- LGE's agent in Jordan, feel that it is our duty as key players within the Jordanian community to take part in initiatives that promise more good for Jordanians. Through sponsoring this event for the 16th year consecutively, we hope to promote more awareness on SCNP's humane mission, and encourage people's contribution to help treat more cases".

From another angle, the Marketing and PR Manager for the DSUM, Ms. Mona Kopti said, "the LG Dead Sea Ultra Marathon has witnessed over a decade the rising national and international recognition with the great efforts of the Society for the Care of Neurological Patients (SCNP). The LG DSUM has an impressive track record since it first started, and I especially look forward to this year, as we celebrate the 16th anniversary in triumph."

It is worth mentioning that the LG DSUM is held annually on the first or second Friday of the month of April, with a pre-set run map starting from Amman and ending in the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. This event grants opportunities for people of all age groups to participate including individuals aged 15 and under. 2009 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com)
