This fourth volume of the critical edition of the Skandapurana brings scholars up to about halfway through complete text. Following the well-established format and style of the previous volumes, the main text of the critical edition in preceded by an introduction and a detailed synopsis of the edited chapters, which includes annotation on cultural-historical and philosophical matters. A significant feature of the part of the text that commences here is the Skandapurana's remarkable engagement with Vaisnava mythology. The introduction discusses some of the more noteworthy aspects of this engagement, and the next volume will consider more. Much in the text should interest scholars of brahmanical Hinduism at large.
