The Sex Doctor: Ex won't go away.

Byline: DR Catherine Hood

Dear Dr Cath

HOW can I shake off my ex- boyfriend? We were together two years but split up six months ago. Initially he took our break-up well, but since he found out I have another man he keeps phoning and bombarding me with texts asking if we can get back together. Why can't he see it's over?

HE'S clearly fixated with you and isn't going to get the message quickly. I know you once loved him, but now you have to be cruel to be kind.

Make it clear that you don't want any more contact. Don't answer your phone to him or reply to his text messages. This may seem cruel, but it could be the short sharp shock he needs.

Confide in someone about the trouble you've been having and let them know what steps you are taking to get your message across.

If the situation turns nasty then someone else knows the full story and it's not just your word against his.
