The Road star.
WITH impeccable timing, Mini has released photos of its new Roadster, the car that is based on this week's road test car.
Like the coupe, the Roadster has two seats, and is shorter, narrower and lower than the current convertible.
The roof is made of fabric and is manually operated to save weight. It can be lowered from the driver's seat and folds up into a space behind the seats. Mini is talking up the Roadster's handling, saying that the lightweight roof means that the centre of gravity is very low.
The cheapest Roadster costs pounds 18,015 and is powered by 121bhp 1.6-litre motor in non-turbo form.
The Roadster goes on sale next spring after it has made its debut at January's Detroit motor show in the US.
