The Riverside Community College District in California has received nearly $3 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Education to increase participation and achievement in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics by underrepresented minorities, women and veterans.

The Riverside Community College District in California has received nearly $3 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Education to increase participation and achievement in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics by underrepresented minorities, women and veterans. The grants, which were made available through the federal College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, will. finance three programs at Riverside City College and the Moreno Valley Campus. The Moreno Valley Campus received $1.2 million to create a Student Success Center to provide Hispanic and low-income students with the tools they need to succeed in one of the STEM fields. Riverside City College and sister campuses in Moreno Valley and Norco received $1.2 million to partner with California Polytechnic University, Pomona and California State University, San Bernardino, to develop transfer programs for underrepresented minorities, women and veterans majoring in the STEM fields. Riverside City College also received $606,634 to increase activities such as peer mentoring and counseling for the targeted student groups.
