The Research Council Board Meets.

Muscat, May 29 (ONA)----Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq al- Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan and Chairman of The Research Council (TRC), todaychaired the TRC's 2 nd Board meeting of the year.

During the meeting, the Board reviewed a number of reports and approved a number of projects and proposals that will enhance the efforts made by TRC to promote innovation and scientific research fields in the Sultanate.

During the meeting, the Board initially approved the establishment of a company to manage Innovation Complex Muscat to select the ideal model to manage the complex in a way compatible with the nature of the work of the scientific areas. The Complex includes the headquarter of The Research Council, a number of incubators for entrepreneurs and innovators and specialized research centres. The Complex focuses on four main research sectors namely energy, health, water and food. It includes a number of land plots that may be utilized in scientific research and innovation.

It also approved the proposed model for managing the research centres, such as Oman Centre for Animal and Plant Genetic Resources and Advanced Technologies Integration Institute.

It also approved a challenge program that focus on converting the graduation projects into a start up companies in collaboration with the private sector. It approved a proposal to create strategic partnership that allow the operation of the Omani network for scientific research, education, the virtual library and the national digital store in collaboration with the private sector. The Omani network project aims at developing the efficiency of education , research and e-communications.

It also approved the proposal to implement the third annual forum for researchers which will include the national award for scientific research as per the available financial resources for it .

The forumwill also includes unveiling the researches that won the national award. The board also approved the report of the 9 th meeting of the international consultancy committee for the Board.

The meeting included a brief summary on the progress of work during the past years at Nanotechnology water desalination research chair at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).
