The Razz: Mogwai to make sounds of joy.

MOGWAI have been asked to contribute music to a biopic on Joy Division's late frontman Ian Curtis.

Moby has been named as music consultant for the movie, but the Scots band may also be featured on the soundtrack, according to Stuart Braithewaite of Mogwai.

He said: 'The producer asked if we wanted to contribute, which should be fun. Moby is pretty annoying but loves Joy Division a lot. It could be worse, as long as he doesn't make it funky.'

Curtis committed suicide aged 23 on the eve of a US tour in May 1980.

Mogwai, currently touring North America as part of the Cure's Curiosa Festival, plan to release an album of BBC sessions featuring tracks the band made for John Peel and Steve Lamacq's Radio One shows.

Tracks include Hunted By A Freak, R U Still In 2 It?, Helicon 2, Kappa, Secret Pint, Like Herod, Superheroes Of BMX, Helicon 1 and Stop Coming To My House. It will be released by PIAS in the autumn.

The band begin a tour of the Far East on October 2, appearing in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka in Japan, Taipei in Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
