The Psalms Are Yours.

Carmelite Fr. Roland E. Murphy is proof that scholarship is not incompatible with readability. The coeditor of the New Jerome Biblical Commentary now offers The Psalms Are Yours (Paulist, 148 pages, $10.95 paperback) to make the psalms accessible to all.

His commentary includes considerations of history and culture and opens doors that will invite personal insight. Murphy acknowledges that the psalms first belonged to Israel. Before they become "ours," readers must recognize, the psalms remain "the prayerful expressions of an ancient people in an ancient language and with a different world view."
