The Performance Monomers business of The Dow Chemical Company, Midland, Michigan, USA, has announced a 10% increase in capacity for the production of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) at its facility in Freeport, Texas, USA, the result of what Dow says is "a successful debottlenecking initiative ..." The company adds that it is currently the leading worldwide supplier of GMA, "a high purity, dual functionality monomer ideally suited for coating and resin applications. Primary applications for GMA include automotive and powder coatings, radiation curable coatings, waterborne resins, industrial and protective finishes, appliance and hardware finishes, adhesives, electrical laminates, hydrogenated LER substitutes [and] plastic modifiers." www.dow.com.

Dow has also announced that the SCG-Dow Group, a joint venture between Dow and SCG (Siam Cement Group), has reached "a key milestone" for the new propylene oxide (PO) facility in Thailand by ramping up the plant to stable production levels in preparation for the full-capacity run scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year. Dow says that the plant, located within the Asia Industrial Estates (ME) site near Map Ta Phut, Thailand, will have a nameplate capacity of 390 kilotons/yr of PO via the "innovative hydrogen peroxide to propylene oxide (HPPO) technology jointly developed by Dow and BASE" www.dowpo.com; www.scg.co.th.
