The Outfield project in Lansing.

The $11 million development will include a four-story building overlooking the outfield of Cooley Law School Stadium, home to the Lansing Lugnuts minor league baseball team.

With the equity investment, the state becomes a part owner of Outfield Partners LLC the company created to build The Outfield apartment development. It consists of Gillespie's Lansing-based firm, Gillespie Group, and Take Me Out to the Ballgame LLC, which owns the Lugnuts.

The apartments will be a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, with six micro-units of roughly 380 square feet to test the market.

The Outfield project is setting a new standard for professional baseball facilities, Lansing's project has gained national attention.
