The Olympics: 2004: 7 LIFTERS OUT OVER DOPING.

Byline: NATHAN YATES

THE Olympics were hit by another doping scandal yesterday as it was revealed SEVEN weightlifters have tested positive for drugs.

Five - from Morocco, Moldova, Hungary, India and Turkey - were suspended before the Games for taking anabolic steroids.

Two more - a woman lifter from Myanmar who also tested positive for anabolic steroids, and an Indian lifter with diuretics in her system - were thrown out yesterday.

International Weightlifting Federation chief Tamas Ajan admitted last night the sport was in crisis.

He added: "The problem of doping spreads beyond weightlifting and can be centred around some foreign coaches who will go to different countries in order to make model competitors."

At Sydney 2000, the Bulgarian weightlifting team was stripped of three golds for doping offences.
