The New Standard In Windows NT Performance: DeskStation Technology Ships the Raptor ReFlex, the Industry's First 366MHZ Alpha Workstation.

LENEXA, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 1996-- Continuing its leadership in delivering the industry's fastest single-processor Windows NT Workstations, DeskStation Technology, Inc. announced today the availability of the new Raptor ReFlex workstation with the world's fastest microprocessor - the Alpha 21164 366MHz. DeskStation continues to set the pace in high-performance Windows NT Workstations by being first to market with a system based on the Alpha 21164 366MHz.

The Raptor ReFlex workstation with the new Alpha 21164 366MHz microprocessor becomes the fastest single-processor system available for Windows NT. The 366MHz CPU module is available immediately. Raptor ReFlex systems with the 400MHz and 433MHz will be available next quarter.

The following table indicates the relative performance of the Raptor ReFlex with the 366MHz in four 3D rendering benchmarks:

DeskStation Raptor ReFlex 56/366MHz 5.62

Pentium Pro 200MHz 2.64

SGI Indigo II R4400 250MHz 2.16

Pentium 100MHz 1.0

"The introduction of DeskStation's Raptor ReFlex 56/366 with the
awesome power of the latest version of our 21164 Alpha
microprocessor, demonstrates once again DeskStation's leading-edge
design capability and quick time to market," said Bill Johnson, vice
president of sales and marketing for Digital Semiconductor.

UniFlex(TM) Compatibility

Raptor ReFlex is fully compatible with all of the CPU modules for
the entire UniFlex family and all Raptor 3 motherboards will
accommodate any of the newer UniFlex CPU modules.
The Raptor ReFlex is based upon DeskStation Technology's
award-winning UniFlex architecture. Since its introduction in the
Spring of 1995, DeskStation's unique UniFlex architecture and design
has been recognized for its performance, flexibility and
affordability by leading industry publications. The Raptor 3
workstation won the COMDEX Spring '95 "Best of Show" award from Byte
Magazine, a Computer Graphics World Editor's Choice Award, Cadalyst
Magazines highest five-star rating, a finalist award for "Best of
Show" at COMDEX Fall '95 from Byte Magazine and most recently Byte
Magazine's Editors Choice Award as one of the best systems
introductions of 1995.

ReFlex Feature Enhancements and Compatibility

The ReFlex offers a number of enhancements yet is still fully
compatible with all of the CPU modules for the entire UniFlex family.
The improvements include an on-board fast-wide SCSI, four high-speed
serial ports, two parallel ports, 16-bit stereo sound and one
mid-length and five available full-length PCI slots to accommodate
today's and tomorrow's high-performance PCI peripherals. Raptor
ReFlex is available now with any of six processor modules including:

 - MIPS R4600/133MHz,
 - Alpha 21064A(EV45),
 - Alpha 21164 (EV5)/266MHz,
 - Alpha 21164 (EV5)/300MHz,
 - Alpha 21164 (EV5)/333MHz,
 - Alpha 21164 (EV56)/366MHz

"The Raptor ReFlex has been designed to provide the additional
features and performance that customers want in high-end
workstations," said Don Peterson, president of DeskStation
Technology. "It continues the DeskStation tradition of exceptional
power, while protecting our customers' investments through
compatibility with current and future UniFlex modules.
"Its unique purple and yellow color scheme may remind some of
Silicon Graphics' systems," he added. "But that is where the
similarity ends: in 3D rendering applications the Raptor ReFlex is
two to three times faster than an SGI IndigoII Extreme with a 250MHz
MIPS R4400 CPU at a fraction of the price."

Highest Performance When You Need It

The Raptor ReFlex is ideal for those applications that require
the highest level of performance: 3D animation and rendering,
non-linear video editing, compositing, real-time object manipulation,
and CAD/CAM. As a Web server, the ReFlex is perfect for content
creation and delivery.
"DeskStation Technology's Alpha 366 screams! Combined with
graphics acceleration like the Dynamic Pictures V192, this system is
ideal for demanding production graphics and animation with high-end
NT programs like LightWave, Softimage3D(R) and 3D Studio MAX(TM),"
said Tim Forcade, animator, author and contributing editor for
Computer Graphics World magazine. "DeskStation's unique modular
approach finally makes processor upgrades a reality, enabling you to
maintain a performance edge."

The Raptor ReFlex workstation is available immediately with
prices starting at $7,000 depending on the system configuration. A
Raptor ReFlex workstation with the Alpha 21164 366MHz is available
with prices starting under $15,000.
