The National Media Day of TEMPUS Program in Syria Starts.

Aleppo, North Syria, (SANA) -- The 6th National Media Day of Trans-European Mobility Programme for University Studies (TEMPUS) in Syria started on Sunday in Aleppo city, north Syria.The activities are held by the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education, European Union Delegation to Syria and the National Tempus office.

Rami Ayoubi, the National Coordinator for Tempus Programme in Syria at the Ministry of Higher Education, said that the purpose of holding these activities is to introduce Tempus' projects in Syria, particularly concerning the higher education domain.

Ayoubi noted that Tempus Programme, which is one of the projects funded by the EU, aims at developing the higher education systems in the partner countries.

Ayoubi indicated that Tempus Programme plays a significant role in boosting cooperation between higher education sector and the EU, noting that the joint cooperation projects between higher education institutes and Tempus have reached 39 projects.

For his part, Jyrki Torni, the First Secretary at the EU Delegation to Syria, said that Syrian and European universities can continue guaranteeing the positive results of this cooperation in the field of higher education, adding that these results should be sustainable.

"The European Union, in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, has worked since September 2007 to support and develop the higher education sector in Syria concerning capacity building, strategic planning, management information systems, quality assurance and curriculum development", Torni said.

He pointed out that the EU has been also working with the Ministry of Education since April to help reform and develop secondary education system.
