The Laughter of Carthage is the second novel in the 'Colonel Pyat' quartet, and as such as a recommended read for fans of the first book who want to continue the story begun in Byzantium Endures. Pyat's fled the Bolshevik Russia environment in 1919 and now embarks on daring adventure involving affairs with a baroness and a Greek prostitute even as he decides to build flying machines in Europe and the U.S. He's racist, anti-Semitic, and an addict--and his life filled with sordid affairs, flamboyant mannerisms and eventually a move to Hollywood. A romp through one man's ever-changing life makes for an engrossing novel and a 'must' for prior fans of Pyat's adventures.
