All-New Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Videos
for Valentine's Day and Easter;
All Titles Boast Extensive Consumer Tie-In Promotions
From the breathtaking depths of the African jungle comes what promises to be one of the biggest video events of Y2000, Disney's "Tarzan," the $170MM box-office smash, premiering on video ($26.99 S.R.P.) and DVD ($39.99 S.R.P.) on Feb. 1, 2000.
As Buena Vista Home Entertainment roars into the 21st century, "Tarzan" arrives with an all-new "Strangers Like Me" music video by superstar Phil Collins and a strikingly beautiful digital transfer that showcases the film's breakthrough 3-D animation technology ("deep canvas").
The "family-friendly" DVD arrives DVD-ROM-enabled (with Internet links) and loaded with exciting extras for all the family, including a never-before-seen recording session by Phil Collins and guests, a Read-Along, a Trivia Game, various sneak peeks and many other features. Spanish and French versions of the video will also be available.
"Tarzan" will be supported by a massive marketing program across all media, including TV advertising during the Superbowl pre-show, the Golden Globes and the American Music Awards as well as a raft of promotional and synergy tie-ins.
In addition to the standard DVD, a "Tarzan" Collector's Edition DVD, will premiere on March 21 ($49.99 S.R.P.), including all these materials along with audio commentary by the movie's creators and extensive bonus materials about the history and development of the film.
Retailers also will be looking forward to Disney's "An Extremely Goofy Movie," which premieres exclusively on home video ($24.99 S.R.P.) and DVD ($29.99 S.R.P.) on the Goofiest Day of the Year -- "Leap Day," Tuesday, Feb. 29.
Starring everyone's favorite "Goofs," Goofy and his son Max find themselves attending college together in an all-new, hip and hilarious adventure that features exciting extreme sports action, high-energy music and the star vocal power of comedian Pauly Shore.
For younger Disney fans, destined to be seasonal classics are two, all-new Winnie the Pooh titles for Valentine's Day and Easter -- "Winnie the Pooh, a Valentine for You!" which debuts Jan. 11, and "Sing a Song With Tigger," which debuts March 7. Both are priced at $14.99 S.R.P. Also, "Sing a Song With Tigger" is timed to follow the February national theatrical release of "The Tigger Movie."
Also debuting Jan. 11 will be an all-new, hilarious, animated feature "Gadget's Greatest Gadgets" ($19.99 S.R.P.), crashing into stores to capitalize on nostalgia for the wacky 1980s TV show and the Dec. 7 video release of the live-action smash "Inspector Gadget," starring Matthew Broderick.
"We are very excited to be releasing `Tarzan' and `An Extremely Goofy Movie' on both video and DVD," said Mitch Koch, general manager, North America, Buena Vista Home Entertainment. "In particular, we are very proud of the DVDs' `family-friendly' features -- like the Read-Along, the Trivia Game and the DVD-ROM features. They go a long way to showcasing the real capabilities of Disney DVD.
"This reflects our commitment to retailers and consumers in bringing the top-quality family entertainment that people have come to expect. We will be heavily supporting these titles with significant levels of advertising across all media, as well as through our particularly strong tie-in promotions."
All BVHE releases are closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired. Running lengths and MPAA ratings vary. BVHE is the recognized industry leader for 11 consecutive years.

"Tarzan" stars Glenn Close, Rosie O'Donnell, Minnie Driver, Wayne Knight, Nigel Hawthorne, as well as Tony Goldwyn as the voice of Tarzan, in a stunning and heartwarming film that takes viewers on a thrilling, action-packed adventure filled with rich themes of family and belonging.
"Tarzan's" artistry and technique blend as never before, with the addition of a breakthrough 3-D animation technology called "deep canvas," that provides amazing depth in animation, allowing for a more successful integration of characters within backgrounds. Viewers of the DVD will particularly appreciate the digital-to-digital transfer offering a video quality superior to that seen in theaters.
Adding to the excitement is the laugh-out-loud humor of its entertaining characters and the driving rhythm of five powerful songs from universally popular Grammy Award(TM)-winning singer/songwriter Phil Collins, and a musical score by Grammy Award-winning Mark Mancina ("Speed," "Twister," "Con Air"). The soundtrack has become one of the best-selling CDs of the year.
"Tarzan" is based on Edgar Rice Burrough's immortal adventure classic, "Tarzan of the Apes," the extraordinary tale of an orphaned infant raised by a family of gorillas who accept him as one of their own. As Tarzan matures into a young man -- with the instincts of a jungle animal and the physical prowess of an athletic superstar -- his life changes forever when he finally meets other humans.
Combining humor, breathtaking jungle action and sensational music with powerful emotional themes, "Tarzan" provides a timeless yet contemporary take on the popular story.
