The INSIDER: Tom falls victim to the knife; goes behind the headlines.
But where was he? The documentaries followed a number of famous faces which graced TV screens in the '70s and '80s, including Bernie Clifton, Christopher Biggins and Tony Blackburn. Highlights included the Krankies in bed together and Bernard Manning walking around the house in his underpants.
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted Bootle-born entertainer Tom O'Connor's name in the credits, indicating he would appear later in the series. But he didn't.
The BBC, which included Tom on its website previewing the series, has now confirmed that the silver-haired star ended up on the cuttingroom floor.
A source reveals he was followed for nearly a month by a camera crew which shot 48 hours of material.
The Beeb spokeswoman said: ``We did film Tom O'Connor but we did the same for a huge number of entertainers and obviously not everyone could be included in the series.''
Better luck next time Tom, but maybe you have had a lucky escape as the series didn't do any favours for those featured.
His agent, Positive Management in Ormskirk, is now hoping he will feature in the next series.
For now the busy Scouse comic must be hopping mad that his time was wasted.
