The Houston Texans Announce a FieldTurf Surface.

DALTON, Ga., July 9 /PRNewswire/ --

The Houston Texans, the newest addition to the NFL and the AFC South, have announced that they have chosen FieldTurf to cover the surface at their indoor practice field. The Texans Training Facility will include three practice fields in all, with the FieldTurf surface covering over 90,000 square feet. The FieldTurf surface will be domed by an air-supported structure, the first of its kind in Texas.

"When we designed this facility, we made sure it has everything it takes to win," Texans general manager Charley Casserly says. "We've got grass fields. Our indoor field will be one of the newer synthetic fields, which is popular among the players. What we've done here is put ourselves in a position to win."

FieldTurf was developed to replicate the performance and characteristics of natural grass. In recent years, its growing popularity among collegiate and professional teams such as the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Seattle Seahawks, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets, has helped to change the negative perception generally associated with artificial turf.

"It has been an incredible month for our organization", said John Gilman, CEO of FieldTurf. "We had the opportunity to announce the FIFA recommendation of Nickerson Field at Boston University, and now this decision by the Houston Texans -- it's like scoring both a goal and a touchdown in the same game."

FieldTurf continues to develop its international market with over 300 installations worldwide. The combination of safety and performance make it a winning formula and the obvious choice for teams such as the Texans, who are building state of the art facilities.

The installation of the new surface at the Houston Texans practice facility is scheduled to be complete and ready for play by the Spring of 2002.
