The Holbrooke Hotel.

The Holbrooke Hotel, 212 W. Main St., 95945; (800) 933-7077. Built as the Exchange Hotel in 1862, this lodging has been meticulously restored. Take the glass and wrought-iron elevator to 17 rooms in the main building, or walk to 10 rooms in the Purcell House at the back.

All rooms are furnished with antique brass or wood beds; baths have claw-foot tubs. Some rooms have gas fireplaces and verandas.

Continental breakfast is served buffet-style in a small sitting room off the lobby. You can also enjoy the hotel's copper-walled bar or have lunch or dinner in the popular brick-walled restaurant (or dine outdoors). Rooms are $59 to $99.
