The Glam prepares for reunion gig; PREVIEW: The Glam Gala Concert at St David's Hall in Cardiff.
THE countdown has begun to The Glam Reunion Symphony Orchestra and Chorus' gala performance.
Following last year's successful reunion, the orchestra and chorus, with the addition of the Glam Wind Band, are returning to the stage for a performance of classical favourites at St David's Hall in Cardiff.
The evening will feature a number of big names, including newly knighted Welsh composer and conductor Sir Karl Jenkins, himself a former Glamorgan Youth Orchestra player, and Simon Morgan from the West End's The Lion King.
The programme will include the fanfare by Terry 'Drac' Johns; and music by Copland to Faure and Jenkins to Johns. The concert will also include a performance of an arrangement from The Lion King by the newly formed South Wales-based Glam Youth Choir.
Members of the youth choir will have had the chance to work with artists during the free GlamCamp2015 summer school, taking place during the week prior to the concert at the University of South Wales.
Among the orchestra's players is MP Wayne David, who is an oboeist.
He said: "Music has been a huge part of my life and the Mid Glam Orchestra (and the Glam before it) gave me so much.
"I sincerely hope that this year's concert will build on last year's success, and will make the point that giving young people musical opportunities is central to them being able to live full lives."
The Glam is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting youth music across South Wales.
One of the organisation's remits is gathering data on the effects of music opportunities for people during their early years.
The Glam is keen to ensure that opportunities are not lost for young performers today.
The concert takes place at St David's Hall in Cardiff on Saturday, August 29, at 7.30pm. Call 029 2087 8444 or visit www.stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk
