350 Attendees Welcome the Birth of the Foundation at Kick-Off Event

More than 350 supporters including Hollywood stars from "The Sopranos," "The Practice," "Baywatch," VH-1, Nickelodeon and the Food Network as well as Julia Ormand, Gabrielle Carteris, Barry Williams, Carl Lewis, and many others joined with legendary Hollywood Mayor Johnny Grant to officially launch the California Pizza Kitchen Foundation.

A total of $150,000 was raised at the fundraising event held at CPK's flagship store at Hollywood and Highland with proceeds going to fund the new Foundation's E.N.R.I.C.H. initiatives that seek to Enrich, Nurture and Reward the Individual Lives of Children, our future Heroes. To accomplish its goals, E.N.R.I.C.H. will work with organizations that nurture the creativity of children, spark their imagination and give them the hope they need to fulfill their dreams.

"We would like to thank all of the generous supporters who made the launch of the CPK Foundation such a success," said Larry S. Flax, co-founder and co-chairman of California Pizza Kitchen. "With your help, the Foundation can continue to help create opportunities for today's children by providing the support and nurturing they need to meet tomorrow's challenges."

In addition to a delectable dinner featuring CPK's signature pizzas, pastas and salads, the evening featured a preview of the Foundation's Celebrity Pizza Box Collection with its one-of-a-kind boxes decorated by celebrities including Edie Falco, Ed Burns, the cast of "Will and Grace," as well as Rosie O'Donnell, Jay Leno, Danny Devito and many others.

Hollywood Mayor Johnny Grant proclaimed May 9 - 16 as "CPK Foundation Loves Kids Week," and also celebrated his birthday by blowing out the candles on a birthday pizza as the crowd sang "Happy Birthday," accompanied by the big band sounds of the Rumble Kings.

Days before the event, an anonymous donor paid $25,000 for the entire collection of celebrity-pizza boxes and donated the proceeds -- in addition to returning the boxes -- back to the Foundation. The California Pizza Kitchen Corporation matched the total proceeds from the CPK Foundation event, essentially doubling the money raised.

Marking the Foundation's first contribution to a nonprofit organization, CPK co-founders Larry Flax and Rick Rosenfield presented a $20,000 check to Stuart House through SHARE, Inc., a non-profit and nationally recognized organization, which aids children with mental and physical challenges. Stuart House works to meet the special needs of children who are victims of sexual abuse.

The popular full-service restaurant chain has made pizza an out-of-the-ordinary experience since 1985, and has turned all of its restaurant openings into fundraising machines for each new community it serves, contributing over $200,000 in just the past twelve months for local charities across the United States.
