Four years have elapsed since publication of the previous edition of this standard reference work. The new 8th Edition contains an updated section on how to register a name, what to choose and what protection, registration offers. To quote from the Foreword, "a Trade Mark can be the lifeblood of business and as such should be carefully chosen, nurtured and preserved, because it is the means of creating a reputation for your products, establishing their continuity and ensuring future sales".

In this book the reader will find around 4,000 recent trade marks registrations and brand names reserached by the publishers as well as the addresses of nearly 2,600 companies and individuals both in the United Kingdom and elsewhere who are the legal owners of these names.

For the food company interested in creating new names for ranges of products currently being tested, for importers representing foreign produced products not previously available in this country, and for inspired individuals looking for the novel name of the future, this directory represents an overview of what is being used at the moment.

Because there are now so many new food products coming onto the market and in part due to the ramifications of the Common Market, the number of names being used and/or registered in this country has increased to the point where the editors have decided to publish only new information in each edition of the directory from now on and therefore the present 8th Edition becomes Volume Three as well, with two preceeding editions being given Volume numbers to ensure that all names and brands researched since the launch of this directory thirty years ago, are still available in published form for reference.
