The BIZ: Long haul crossing message.

TRANSPORT group O'Connor is taking the fight for a new Mersey crossing to the four corners of the UK.

Its 80- strong fleet of trucks will proudly bear the Mersey crossing logo as a show of support for the proposed pounds 355m scheme linking Widnes and Runcorn to ease pressure on the current Silver Jubilee bridge.

Peter Lea,commercial director with the Widnes-based O'Connor group of companies, said:``We decided to help the campaign after attending the first briefing on the crossing at Speke's Marriott hotel last year because we believe in this crossing.

``It is not only good for companies but good for the whole of Merseyside,Cheshire and the north west which will benefit from a new bridge.''

The group is replacing its fleet of 80 trucks and so far 70 have had the Mersey Crossing logo painted on their cabs.

Mr Lea said: ``The logo attracts interest from all over the country, wherever they go and people ask about the bridge.''
