The American Civil. (Bad News).
In a report released on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, the ACLU criticized conscience clauses that allow Catholic hospitals to refrain from performing procedures the church considers immoral.
The report even mentions the ACLU's "competing interests" of trying to protect both civil liberties and reproductive rights.
The U.S. bishops' spokesperson called the ACLU's assertion that women's lives are at risk "ridiculous." "Where women's lives are threatened, no Catholic hospital is going to turn away the patient," Cathleen Cleaver told Catholic News Service.
