Thanks for pounds 502 for Animal Aid as cull looms.

AN Animal Aid street collection was held in Whitchurch village on Saturday morning, July 3, and I would like to thank the people of Cardiff for contributing pounds 131 in the village, pounds 191 in the post from Cardiff supporters and pounds 180 in new membership fees, giving a total of pounds 502.

The "hot" topics were the badger kill and a possible return of hunting with hounds, both repugnant to all the people we spoke with.

The badger kill seems based on primitive rural mythology rather than scientific evidence, ignoring public acceptability and the ecological and economic consequences including the effect on tourism.

My thanks to our helpers aged from one year to 82 years, to the Plough for supplying the choice of soya milk when helpers had a break, the shop assistants who left their posts to put money in the collecting tins and for the people visiting Whitchurch village who, besides contributing, gave of their time to give their support verbally.
